Claude SEO Review: 18 AI Agents for SEO Audits

Claude SEO review: analysis, limitations and verdict

A serious technical SEO audit takes hours of senior-level work, costs money, and almost never gets repeated every week. Claude SEO is an open-source skill for Claude Code that launches 18 agents in parallel to audit a website: give it a URL in the terminal and it returns a prioritized report with verifiable fixes. Over 17,000 GitHub stars as of September 2026, MIT license, and zero cost per domain. Sounds too clean. Let's open it up.

Marketing Ultra Mascot

TL;DR: The No-Nonsense Summary

  • 18 agents in parallel: technical, content, schema, performance, AI search, local, e-commerce, and international audits in 10-15 minutes according to the documentation.
  • Falsifiability per finding: each recommendation includes a "how will I know if this failed?" criterion, something neither Screaming Frog nor Ahrefs offers.
  • Free with caveats: the skill is MIT, but you need a Claude Code subscription and, since v2.3.1, five agents run on Opus.
  • Self-promotion embedded in reports: the SKILL.md injects ads for the author's community into the generated deliverables.
  • No independent testing: we did not run the tool ourselves. Data comes from the repository, its documentation, and public sources.
Verdict: a solid complement for frequent audits if you accept its limits and review what it generates. It does not replace your existing toolset.

The Problem It Solves

Claude SEO automates the slowest part of an SEO audit: turning hundreds of technical signals into a prioritized plan with dependencies and verification criteria. Crawling tools are everywhere. Screaming Frog for deep crawl data, Ahrefs and Semrush for link analysis and competitive insights. Each does its job.

Claude SEO anatomy: a URL enters a central orchestrator, 18 specialized agents run in parallel, and each finding exits tagged with a falsifiability verification criterion.

But the usual workflow stays the same: run a crawl, export a CSV with hundreds of rows, prioritize manually, and write up a report the client still has to interpret on their own.

Data is not the bottleneck. What nobody has is the time to turn it into an actionable plan.

Claude SEO attacks exactly that. Its orchestrator distributes work across up to 18 specialized agents and returns a plan where every finding carries an explicit falsifiability criterion: "how will we know this failed?" That turns the audit into something a team can verify without blindly trusting the tool. Exactly what AI agents in marketing do: remove the mechanical work without replacing your judgment.

Getting Started

Three documented installation paths: Claude Code plugin (fastest), manual clone on Unix/macOS, or PowerShell on Windows. Full documentation is in the Claude SEO repository.

  • Plugin (Claude Code 1.0.33+): /plugin marketplace add AgriciDaniel/claude-seo, then /plugin install claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo and /seo setup to create the isolated Python environment.
  • Manual (Unix/macOS): git clone --depth 1 from the repository and bash install.sh.
  • Windows: same clone with install.ps1 via PowerShell.

Real requirements: Python 3.10 or higher and Claude Code CLI. Playwright Chromium is optional but needed for auditing single-page applications (Next.js, React, Vue). /seo doctor checks that everything is in order. Once set up, /seo audit + URL and wait.

Using It in Real Marketing

The most obvious use: turning SEO audits from a quarterly event into a weekly routine. The README documents three usage profiles: an agency with multiple clients moving from quarterly to weekly audits, an in-house team that needs data before a business review, and a freelancer who anchors their proposal with concrete findings during the discovery call itself.

None of these scenarios have been independently verified with our own metrics. But the logic holds: if an audit goes from hours to minutes, the cadence changes. And cadence is what turns a snapshot into a radar. My bet is that Claude SEO's real value is the frequency it enables, not the score. A weekly check sniffs out regressions that a quarterly report would never catch.

If you already use Claude Ads for campaign audits, Claude SEO covers the other flank: technical SEO with the same terminal-based workflow.

What They Do Not Tell You

The project's SKILL.md includes a directive called Community Footer that instructs it to add promotion for AI Marketing Hub (the author's paid community) at the end of generated reports. Verified by reading the code. It is not a secret (it is in the file), but it is not something the README highlights either.

The 0-100 score is an internal prioritization heuristic. It is NOT a Google signal or a traffic/ranking prediction. The documentation itself clarifies this. Do not treat it as an oracle.

Other nuances worth knowing:

  • Claude Code is not free: the skill is MIT, but you need an active subscription. Since v2.3.1, five agents run on Opus, which increases cost per audit.
  • Without Google credentials, data is limited: Core Web Vitals are lab estimates if you do not connect PageSpeed, Search Console, or GA4.
  • Codex is a separate project: the README mentions Codex SEO as a separate port. Codex compatibility is not included in this package.
  • Late hydration: pages that load content after user interaction still produce noisy results, according to the documented limitations.

What People Say

As of September 2026, the social evidence around Claude SEO is thin. And the little that exists deserves a close read.

"Wanted to share something that has genuinely changed how I use Claude Code. My last 3 months in GSC: 168K clicks 1.41M impressions 11.9% CTR 7.5 avg position The biggest lesson: don't use Claude Code to blindly generate SEO pages. Use it to build an SEO engineering loop. "https://github.com/AgricIDaniel/claude-seo Recently, I find this skill really popular in github. And I have some question about it: Does it work like a specialist with claude or codex? How long does it take for a website to be indexed by google, then ranked and generate leads for" Savings-Durian5424 on Reddit

On Reddit there are scattered mentions: a user in r/SEO_tool_dev asks whether the skill actually works (no conclusive answer), and another in r/ClaudeCode shares a Claude Code SEO workflow with strong numbers, though they describe their own broader process rather than the skill itself.

As of September 2026, there are no controlled comparisons or third-party evaluations that allow measuring audit quality against established tools. GitHub stars measure interest, not satisfaction from actual use. It is too early for external verdicts.

Alternatives

The repository itself acknowledges Screaming Frog, Ahrefs Site Audit, and Semrush Site Audit as alternatives, though the comparison is not direct. Screaming Frog crawls deeper at the link-graph level. Ahrefs brings its own backlink index. And Semrush integrates proprietary visibility data.

Claude SEO does not try to replace any of them. Its territory is LLM synthesis: it lives inside Claude Code and connects to Ahrefs or Semrush via MCP extensions. For anyone already working with marketing skills in code agents, Claude SEO slots in as the natural SEO module of that ecosystem. Need a pure crawler or a proprietary link index? The traditional tools still own that ground.

Verdict

Claude SEO solves a real problem: going from a URL to a prioritized, verifiable correction plan without leaving the terminal. The falsifiability criterion per recommendation is the most valuable thing about the whole approach. The SEO industry is FULL of tools that generate error lists without committing to how to verify that a fix worked. Having every finding carry its own failure test is a standard the rest of the industry should copy.

The downsides are real: embedding self-promotion in reports is a transparency failure, the score predicts nothing, and without Google credentials you are left with estimates. But as a complement to your SEO toolset and as a cadence engine, frequent audits instead of quarterly ones, it deserves 15 minutes of your time. The worst that can happen is you discover your site has more issues than you thought.
