OpenAI has just put a door inside the ad. It no longer wants users to see advertising, click, and leave ChatGPT: it wants them to talk to the brand without leaving the platform. ChatGPT Ads turns advertising into an AI-assisted experience, with sponsored agents and integrations connecting campaigns, CRM, and ecommerce. It sounds powerful. It is also far more complex than the headline suggests.

TL;DR: The no-nonsense summary
- Sponsored Agents: let users open an identified conversation from an ad, separate from the original chat.
- Spain is included: Ads Manager offers self-service access in Spain, the EU, and the rest of the EEA.
- Still in beta: ChatGPT Ads is not generally available, while agents remain in a limited US alpha.
- HubSpot and Shopify: connect advertising, customers, and sales, although Shopify’s international rollout has yet to be verified.

ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI’s advertising platform for creating and managing ads within ChatGPT. The official announcement of September 16, 2026 adds Sponsored Agents, natural-language campaign creation, and integrations with HubSpot and Shopify.
The problem? Platform, features, and territories have been lumped together as if everything were available to everyone this morning. Not a chance. Each piece has its own timeline.
Availability in Spain/EU: Partial
Partial or phased rollout; no full confirmation for Spain/EU. Stage: beta. Eligibility: ChatGPT Ads/Ads Manager and HubSpot: beta access in Spain. Sponsored Agents: limited alpha for selected US advertisers. Shopify: retain the documented limitations for each feature.

What are ChatGPT Ads Sponsored Agents?
Sponsored Agents let users start a conversation from an ad with an agent built and sponsored by a company. OpenAI says the experience will be labelled as advertising and kept separate from both ChatGPT’s independent response and the original chat.
This changes the game considerably. A traditional ad tries to send you to a landing page. The sponsored agent stays with you inside ChatGPT to answer questions, compare products, and help while you make up your mind.
That separation matters. A lot. If users cannot tell with complete clarity when they are talking to ChatGPT and when they are talking to a company that paid for the interaction, trust goes out the window. The Sponsored Agents documentation confirms that identification and also tempers the hype: only selected US advertisers are participating in an alpha test, and there is no form to request early access.
A Spanish brand may access Ads Manager, but it cannot assume it already has Sponsored Agents. They are related, but each follows its own path.
Is ChatGPT Ads available in Spain and the EU?
Yes. Spain is explicitly listed among the European countries with self-service access to Ads Manager, but ChatGPT Ads remains in beta. General availability is still a long way off.

Known availability as of September 24, 2026
- ChatGPT Ads and Ads Manager: beta, with self-service confirmed in Spain, the EU, and the EEA.
- HubSpot integration: beta, available wherever ChatGPT Ads operates for accounts that meet the requirements.
- Sponsored Agents: limited alpha for selected US advertisers.
- Shopify app: international expansion announced, but actual operation for Spanish stores has not yet been confirmed.
OpenAI announced its expansion into 31 European markets and named Spain explicitly. The European expansion announcement places the start of self-service access on August 31, 2026. The current Ads Manager list also includes all 27 EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
There is one practical condition: the billed entity must be established in an eligible country. Having a Spanish audience or logging in from a European IP address does not replace that requirement.
Beta is the right label. Calling it GA overstates the announcement and throws an accessible platform, a test integration, and a format reserved for a select few into the same bucket.
What do HubSpot and Shopify add to ChatGPT Ads?
HubSpot connects the ad account to the CRM to create campaigns, bring in contacts, trigger follow-ups, and view attribution and performance alongside other channels. The appeal is closing the gap between ad and customer, the hole where so many attribution models start performing séances.
The official HubSpot guide says the integration is available wherever ChatGPT Ads operates. It is still marked as beta and requires an active ad account and the relevant permissions.
Shopify targets the other end of the funnel. Its app syncs catalogue, inventory, and commerce events with Ads Manager to create campaigns, measure conversions, and review results from the store. OpenAI announced an international expansion for September 23, 2026, but the Shopify documentation still says availability outside the United States is coming soon.
Has the expansion been announced? Yes. Can we say that every Spanish retailer can already install the app and start selling? No. Until the announcement and the documentation align, keep the champagne on ice.
The real shift for brands and agencies
The new tools let users create, update, and analyse campaigns through natural language in ChatGPT Work. Ads Manager can also suggest editable copy and images, as well as adapt or translate ad copy. It saves mechanical work. Strategy still rules: if it was bad before, now it will only be bad faster.
The creative risk is obvious: automating rubbish simply produces rubbish more quickly.
The more significant change may emerge in measurement. If part of discovery, objection handling, and recommendation takes place inside a sponsored agent, the click could lose weight as a signal. If the format leaves alpha and gains reach, agencies will need to audit conversations, response quality, and attribution alongside CPA and ROAS. Anyone looking to compare this model with other channels should retain a solid foundation in Google Ads management and explore tools for AI-powered advertising audits, rather than falling in love with the latest button.
OpenAI has also not published specific Sponsored Agent pricing or broad performance benchmarks by industry or campaign. Any promise of guaranteed returns is smoke dressed up in a pretty interface.
ChatGPT Ads opens a battle for conversation
OpenAI wants advertising to stop being an interruption and become contextual help. That is the commercial thesis. The real test will be more uncomfortable: maintaining the line between independent recommendations and paid messaging when both live on the same screen.

Brands can reduce friction, while retailers can connect catalogue and sales. Agencies get a new channel that demands far more than pushing buttons. And users? One more reason to check the label before believing the answer.
The headline is moving faster than the product. ChatGPT Ads already has self-service access in Spain, yes, but every new feature has its own timeline. That nuance does not spoil the story. It makes it true.
