"html": "
WhatsApp has just removed a rather absurd barrier: forcing someone to sign up just to have a one-off conversation. WhatsApp account-free calls let guests join from a desktop browser. It makes sense for brands and teams. As proof that Zoom and Meet are dead? Not quite.

\n
\n \n
TL;DR: The no-nonsense summary
\n
\n
\n
\n
Account-free access: the guest opens a link in a desktop browser, enters their name and waits to be admitted.
\n
Up to 32 people: it supports one-to-one and group calls, with end-to-end encryption and no announced time limit.
\n
Host control: the organiser approves entry and can remove a guest during the call.
\n
Uncertain availability: Meta has not confirmed the countries involved or a date for the feature to reach every account.
\n
\n \n
\n

DANIEL ESPINOSA RAMOS'S EXPERIENCE
What I do is, every three months, invite clients and friends and say: “Look, out of everything Google has announced, this, this, this and this now actually exist.”
Dani

\n
How do WhatsApp account-free calls work?

Guest Calling lets someone without an account join a call created by a registered user. The guest cannot start or host the conversation: they need to receive the link and be admitted.

According to Meta’s official announcement, the process is straightforward: someone with WhatsApp creates the link, the other person opens it in a desktop browser, enters their name and lands in a waiting room.

The host decides whether to let them in. They can also remove the guest during the call. It may sound like a minor detail, until the link gets passed around more widely than planned. That is when you appreciate someone controlling the door.

Calls can be one-to-one or group calls, with a maximum of 32 people in total. Note the distinction: 32 participants, not 32 guests on top of everyone else.

Meta describes them as free, with no time limit and end-to-end encryption. “Free” refers to the service itself: the announcement does not address possible connection charges or data use.

What can a guest without WhatsApp do?

Guests get enough features to take part, but not full WhatsApp access. They can share their desktop screen, use reactions and raise their hand.

They cannot see other participants’ phone numbers, send messages or add people to the call. And that limitation makes quite a lot of sense in a professional conversation.

Why? Because it does not force everyone to hand over their number to everyone else. In a meeting with a supplier, candidate or external collaborator, joining a call should not become a standing invitation to message you at 10:43 on a Sunday night.

It also avoids the familiar pre-call routine: “install the app,” “create an account,” “I can’t remember my password,” “where was the link?” Four friction-filled steps for a fifteen-minute conversation. A bit of a pain, really.

Practical uses for brands, customers and communities

WhatsApp account-free calls are especially well suited to one-off conversations where a company already uses WhatsApp but the other person does not want to sign up. Will they improve sales? Meta has not provided a single figure that would justify that claim. For now, their value is far more down to earth.

Where I can see them working brilliantly is customer support that needs voice or screen sharing. A retailer could send a link to review an issue, show a configuration or resolve a complex question without making the customer create an account.

They could also work for brief interviews, onboarding collaborators or supplier meetings. If the team already coordinates its work in WhatsApp, bringing someone in for half an hour is more reasonable than moving everyone to another tool.

They make even more sense for communities. For example, a regular session showcasing useful Google Workspace updates could admit guests without requiring them to create an account. Guest access lowers the barrier to that kind of meeting, although it does not turn WhatsApp into an events platform.

And that is my read on it: Meta does not need to beat video-conferencing tools across every feature. It only needs to own the small meetings that begin with a WhatsApp message and end, almost by inertia, in a call. That continuity is its real advantage.

Availability is the part Meta has not fully explained

Guest Calling was announced on October 14, 2026, but that does not mean it is live for everyone. Meta has not published a country-by-country schedule or explicitly confirmed broad availability in Spain or the European Union.

WABetaInfo describes a gradual rollout in recent versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS. There is also no announced date for the option to reach every account.

There are more gaps. The announcement only mentions a desktop browser for guests. It does not confirm access from mobile browsers, list supported browsers or detail minimum technical requirements.

Meta is also announcing Google Calendar and Outlook integrations for later in 2026. Those are future updates, separate from Guest Calling. Presenting them as available today would turn a product update into corporate science fiction.

Is Guest Calling worth using in a business?

Yes, once the feature appears in your account and the meeting is a one-off. It reduces friction, protects participants’ phone numbers and retains reasonable control through the waiting room.

I would not use it yet as the sole system for interviews, support or external meetings. First, I would check that the link works outside the organisation and run a real test using the guest’s browser, including screen sharing.

I would not promise commercial results either. Meta provides no adoption, call-quality, conversion-rate or productivity figures. The technical possibility is confirmed; its impact on each business will need to be proven.

WhatsApp account-free calls solve a specific, everyday problem. That is already more valuable than another feature inflated across thirty slides. But first, it has to appear, work and reach everyone. The announcement opens the door. Let’s not confuse that with having a full room already.
",
