What is ChatGPT Dots?

Dots is the always-on agent system OpenAI introduced on September 29, 2026. Each “dot” runs on GPT-6 Astra, has access to a cloud computer, and retains the context it needs to continue a project across separate conversations.

According to the official OpenAI announcement, the agent can use its browser, Codex, and the apps the user chooses to connect. The company describes an ecosystem with more than 4,000 available apps.

The difference from question-and-answer ChatGPT is simple: you do not have to remind it every morning what it was doing. You can hand it an ongoing project, review its activity, redirect it, or pause it.

That changes the picture quite a bit. Until now, many AI automations were like an intern with the memory of a goldfish: they completed a task, delivered something, and waited for the next instruction. A dot keeps the thread and, if it hits a blocker, can flag it for review.

ChatGPT Dots does not mean autopilot

Dots’ autonomy depends on permissions, reviews, and approvals. Relax: there is no rogue robot clicking around the company as if it had found the boss’s credit card.

Proactive background research can only use read-restricted tools from connected apps. In that mode, the dot cannot send messages, modify content, or control the user’s browser or computer, according to the official documentation.

When an action could affect an account or share information, an automated review system steps in. Some operations require human approval, while sensitive tasks such as changing a password remain reserved for the user.

That brake is just common sense. An AI that can roll out changes without friction can also scale up a mistake at exactly the same speed. Bang. The damage is done.

The real trap will lie elsewhere: approval fatigue. If the agent asks for permission too often, we will end up accepting out of habit. If it asks too rarely, we will not trust it. Dots’ challenge will be putting human intervention precisely where judgement adds value.

Is Dots available in Spain?

Dots is confirmed for Spain, but not for every plan. During the initial launch, Pro accounts in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom are excluded.

The Dots access guide confirms availability for Business Premium in all supported regions. Enterprise has a beta that is disabled by default and must be enabled by an administrator.

Spain appears on the official list of ChatGPT-supported countries. Spanish access is therefore confirmed through Business Premium and Enterprise, although the gradual rollout may take several days to appear.

The first dot is created from the desktop app or desktop web. It can then be used from the mobile app, but it cannot yet be created on mobile or used through mobile web.

How much does it cost? The first agent is included at no extra charge with Pro or Business Premium. OpenAI is offering expanded limits during the first month, but it has not yet published either the final terms for subsequent usage or the price of additional dots. The best first project for Dots has clear boundaries and can be audited without launching an investigation. Consolidating information from several sources or preparing a recurring review is a far better fit than handing it a critical operation from start to finish.

I would start with something less glamorous and much more useful: a weekly inventory of campaigns, issues, and outstanding assets. Read the data, summarise the status, and create a list of decisions for the owner. No autonomous rollouts during the first phase.

It is also worth separating Dots from a custom integration built with the OpenAI Agents API. Dots is a product inside ChatGPT for delegating projects; the API is for building agents into your own systems. They look similar in a screenshot. Not in the work they require.

How to test Dots without creating a circus

My recommendation is to test Dots with a low-risk pilot project, read-only sources, and a verifiable outcome. If you cannot describe what it should deliver and how to check it, you do not have a project yet: you have enthusiasm.
