A one-hour podcast can have a rather sad life: it goes live, gets two nudges on social media, then ends up buried beneath the next cat video. Meta wants to change that with its new Threads podcast tools for promoting, discovering and measuring episodes. Good idea. But beware: we still do not know whether Spanish accounts can use them.

What’s new with podcasts on Threads?

Threads is opening up several ways to ensure an episode does not depend on a sad little link held together with duct tape. Creators can place show banners on their profiles and posts, select a featured episode and share links through tappable cards.

They will also be able to post specific moments with transcripts, video and guest cards. That is the clever bit: an episode stops being one indivisible piece. A long conversation can become several entry points tailored to the feed's fast-paced consumption.

And there are two more details. Creators can enable an automatic reminder to share a new episode, while listeners can save episodes they find as they browse. Europa Press coverage mentions these features, although publishing the story from Madrid does not prove they are available in Spain.

Meta does not explain whether Threads hosts or plays audio. Presenting it as a new hosting platform would be making up half the story. What is confirmed is a layer for podcast promotion, discovery and measurement.

Podcast Insights: measuring interest without mistaking it for listening

\n

Podcast Insights shows the reach and engagement Threads generates for a show, including clicks and saved episodes. The measurement is designed for podcasts. The platform's general analytics remain where they were.

Threads already offered link visits, post performance, interactions and data on growth and discovery. Meta described those general Threads Insights capabilities in 2025. The 2026 update is about putting them in the context of podcast performance.

Where is the catch? Calling any number that goes up a success. A click proves curiosity. A save signals intent. Neither confirms that someone played the episode, made it to the twenty-minute mark or listened through the sponsor mention.

That distinction needs to drive reporting from day one. Threads measures whether the content opens the door. The listening platform will have to report what happens next. Blending those two moments makes for a beautiful slide deck and some pretty questionable decisions.

How does this change creators’ strategy?

The real shift starts during recording. If a creator waits until the episode is finished to ask what they will post, they will be too late and end up salvaging a random quote because “we have to post something.”

During planning, it makes sense to identify several usable moments: an answer that resolves a question, an opinion that sparks debate and a visual clip where the guest actually has something worth saying. Then transcripts, video and cards can be tested to compare which format drives more clicks or saves.

For me, the biggest value lies in the ability to break up a conversation without wrecking it. The banner creates order. The clip distributes. And distribution is the headache many podcasts still leave until the last minute.

There is a risk too: turning every interview into a factory for out-of-context provocative quotes. That may win engagement while destroying trust at the same time. If the episode promises a conversation and the clip sells a fight that never happened, listeners learn quickly. Bang. Credibility gone.

What can brands do with podcasts on Threads?

Brands could use these features as podcast creators, publishers or sponsors, but Meta has not announced a specific option for businesses. Nor does it introduce new ad options, targeting capabilities or metrics designed for sponsors.

For a brand with its own show, cards and clips offer more opportunities to connect each topic with a particular audience. For a sponsor, clicks and saves can offer signals about the interest an episode generates. Signals, I repeat. Not sales, full listens or proven return.

This fits into a Meta trend: links increasingly need to justify their place in the feed. We offered a similar take when analysing Facebook’s limitations on publishing links. On Threads, at least in this case, the company is trying to give the link more context and a less bare-bones presentation.

The right move while Spain remains uncertain

I would not build a calendar that depends on these features for a Spanish account just yet. The rollout began on September 16, 2026, but Meta has not published a regional schedule, completion date or eligibility criteria. We do NOT know who has access.

I would prepare the ground instead: select clips, check which links can measure follow-on traffic and separate reach, clicks, saves and listens in reporting. That way, when the features appear in the account, a strategy will be waiting instead of three people staring at the new button as if a spaceship had landed.

Podcasts on Threads make sense because they turn an episode into a collection of discovery opportunities. But the tool cannot fix weak content, and a save does not pay the bills. First, make something worth listening to. Then distribution and data. In that order.
