The problem is, if you run an ecommerce business in Spain, you haven't been invited to the party. Neither have anyone else in the European Union, at least for now.

What is Google agentic commerce?

Agentic commerce is the umbrella term Google uses for its AI-assisted shopping features. Conversational agents that answer product questions inside ads, reports showing how you appear in AI search, and an open protocol (UCP) that lets users complete a purchase without leaving Google.

Google wants AI to sit between the buyer and your store. You provide the catalogue and the data; they provide the “salesperson”.

The September 16 announcement presents it as a holiday-ready package. But each element has its own status, geographical reach and requirements. Lumping everything together under the label of “general availability” is, at best, misleading.

Three new features with three levels of access

Google has not launched one product. It has announced three features at different stages. And each is moving independently.

AI performance insights is the only feature with general availability, but it is limited to Merchant Center accounts in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United States, and to English-language queries only. The report shows how your products appear in conversational searches in AI Mode and AI Overviews: share of voice, terms, attributes and search intent. The official documentation lists those five markets and no others.

Business Agent for YouTube is entering beta, in the United States only. It extends a conversational agent that was already available in Search for eligible US retailers: it lets shoppers chat with a brand inside an ad and get product answers. Google does not publish eligibility criteria beyond “sign up”.

The new UCP hub capabilities (cart handoff to the retailer’s site, enhanced checkout testing) are rolling out gradually in the United States. Australia and Canada will follow. And UCP-powered checkout is only available to selected retailers that meet specific technical requirements.

When is it coming to Spain? What the sources say

It is not coming. At least not now, and there is no date.

The official sources explicitly list the current markets, and Spain does not appear in any of them. Nor does any other European Union country. The sources list the supported markets, and we are not on that list.

The pattern is ALWAYS the same: the United States first, English-speaking markets next, Europe later. With the DMA and DSA on the table, I would bet that any European rollout of features involving checkout or purchase intermediation will take longer than usual. European regulation of digital markets is not exactly a fast-track process for Google.

One caveat: conversational attributes (product Q&As, variants, documentation links) are documented as optional in Merchant Center, and their page does not indicate a regional restriction. These are data points you can add to your feed today. Whether they are later activated on AI surfaces in Spain is another matter, but the documentation does not shut the door.

Just because these features are not available here does not mean you should sit around waiting. There are things you can do now.

The bigger question: innovation or repackaging?

It needs to be said. Google has spent years automating Shopping and Ads features: smart bidding, Performance Max, automatically enabled recommendations. What is changing now is the label. “Agentic” is the buzzword of 2026, and Google is using it to repackage its intermediation strategy under a name that sounds revolutionary.

Are there genuinely new things here? Yes. Letting a shopper talk to your brand inside a YouTube ad is a real leap. And seeing your share of voice in conversational searches gives you data that did not exist before.
