"html": "<p>OpenCut wants to be a free alternative to CapCut. The idea is still compelling: edit without depending on a product that can change features and terms at any time. But to decide whether you can rely on it for professional work, you need to distinguish between <strong>the available editor and the rewrite the team is preparing</strong>.</p>\n<div class=\"mu-tldr\"><div class=\"mu-tldr__header\">What You Need to Know</div><div class=\"mu-tldr__body\"><ul><li>The current README announces a ground-up rewrite, with a Rust core and an extensible architecture.</li><li>opencut.app still serves the classic version; the new development has its own site.</li><li>MCP, automation, and multi-platform apps are part of that new direction. We don't count them as a finished package.</li><li>The 2025 export criticisms are historical. They don't prove on their own what the current version exports.</li></ul></div><div class=\"mu-tldr__verdict\"><strong>Verdict:</strong> I'm keeping my cautious stance for deadline-driven work. Test your project and its full export before replacing the editor you already use.</div></div>\n<div class=\"mku-caja-roundup\"><p>This tool is part of the living roundup <a href=\"https://soymarketingultra.com/en/open-source-apps-alternatives-paid-software/\">Open-Source Apps That Replace Paid Software: The Living Roundup</a> →</p></div>\n<h2>What Has Changed Since the First Review</h2><p>In this update, dated September 11, 2026, we cross-referenced both repositories, retrieved the original comments, and reviewed the English-language demo. We've kept useful screenshots from the previous version, with their dates. <strong>We did not run a new export test</strong>, so we're not presenting the old export complaint as a current fact.</p>\n<figure class=\"mu-captura wp-block-image\"><img width=\"1400\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https://soymarketingultra.com/wp-content/uploads/mku-resena-opencut-readme-20260911.png\" alt=\"OpenCut documentation explaining the rewrite and the classic version\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"max-width:100%;height:auto\"><figcaption>Our own screenshot of the <a href=\"https://github.com/OpenCut-app/OpenCut#readme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenCut README</a>. The distinction between the new development and the classic version changes how this review should be read.</figcaption></figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https://github.com/OpenCut-app/OpenCut#readme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">main project</a> explains that the new development targets an editing API, plugins, desktop, mobile, browser, MCP, and headless rendering. It also notes that <a href=\"https://opencut.app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opencut.app</a> keeps the classic editor while the rewrite lives at <a href=\"https://new.opencut.app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new.opencut.app</a>.</p><p>The <a href=\"https://github.com/OpenCut-app/opencut-classic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">classic repository</a> is marked as archived and unmaintained. That raises a real decision: test the existing version knowing its status, or follow a new development that's still in flux. I wouldn't mix screenshots from one with promises from the other.</p>\n<h2>The Editor You Could Actually Open</h2>\n<figure class=\"mu-captura wp-block-image\"><img width=\"2560\" height=\"1800\" src=\"https://soymarketingultra.com/wp-content/uploads/review-opencut-app.png\" alt=\"OpenCut classic interface captured in August 2026\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"max-width:100%;height:auto\"><figcaption>Our own screenshot from August 18, 2026: classic editor interface. This does not represent the current rewrite.</figcaption></figure>\n<p>A timeline and preview give you a sense of the concept, but they don't validate the full workflow. To work with video you need to import your formats, cut with precision, reopen the project, and get a file that plays back outside the editor. Every step counts.</p>\n<h2>Video: What Compute For Humans Shows</h2><p>The <strong>Compute For Humans</strong> analysis is in English. Their “OpenCut Today” segment starts at 9:02 and the future-focused segment at 24:28. Keeping the two separate helps avoid treating a planned feature as an available one.</p>\n<div class=\"mu-video\" style=\"position:relative;width:100%;aspect-ratio:16/9;margin:24px 0\"><iframe src=\"https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Xe2rgylMkXw?start=542\" title=\"OpenCut analyzed by Compute For Humans\" loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen style=\"position:absolute;inset:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0\"></iframe></div>\n<figure class=\"mu-captura wp-block-image\"><img width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https://soymarketingultra.com/wp-content/uploads/review-opencut-en-accion.png\" alt=\"Project in the OpenCut timeline shown by Compute For Humans\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"max-width:100%;height:auto\"><figcaption>Frame from the <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe2rgylMkXw&amp;t=542s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Compute For Humans video</a>. An external demo of a specific version; this is not our own export test.</figcaption></figure>\n<h2>Community Reactions: Keep the Criticism, Date It</h2>\n<blockquote><p>“Opencut cannot even export a video.”</p><cite><a href=\"https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44793546\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">robinroy03, Hacker News, August 2025</a></cite></blockquote><p>That's a specific criticism from August 2025. It explains the poor first impression at the time, but it would be wrong to treat it as a September 2026 diagnosis without repeating the test.</p>\n<blockquote><p>“So many GitHub stars and not a single screenshot”</p><cite><a href=\"https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44554181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">greatgib, Hacker News, July 2025</a></cite></blockquote><p>This questioned the gap between the attention received and what was actually visible. The comment itself acknowledges the author hadn't tried the code: it's an opinion about how the project was presented, not a hands-on test.</p>\n<blockquote><p>“The overlap between CapCut enthusiasts and GitHub users is not that big.”</p><cite><a href=\"https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44557027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oefrha, Hacker News, July 2025</a></cite></blockquote><p>The useful takeaway is that technical interest and adoption by creators are not the same thing. We're not treating the suspicions about star origins as proven fact.</p>\n<p>These launch-era opinions explain the early skepticism. To know whether the editor fits your needs today, your own test with your files carries more weight than recounting those criticisms as if they had just been published.</p>\n<h2>The Test It Must Pass Before a Real Delivery</h2>\n<div style=\"max-width:100%;overflow-x:auto\"><table><thead><tr><th>Step</th><th>Acceptance Criterion</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Import</td><td>Typical video, audio, and image files load with correct duration and orientation</td></tr><tr><td>Edit</td><td>Cuts, text, and audio hold up across the full timeline</td></tr><tr><td>Save and reopen</td><td>The project reopens with its assets and settings intact</td></tr><tr><td>Export</td><td>The file has the expected duration, resolution, frame rate, and audio</td></tr><tr><td>Play outside the editor</td><td>The result looks and sounds correct in your intended publishing destination</td></tr></tbody></table></div>\n<p>Start with a short clip and assets you can share. Then repeat with a project similar to what your clients actually send. Note the version, browser or app, and machine: if something breaks, you need to be able to reproduce it. A progress bar hitting 100% isn't enough, open the exported file.</p>\n<h2>Privacy and Alternatives</h2><p>The classic project presents local processing as an advantage. Even so, check what each feature you use actually does, especially external integrations or AI features. It's also not accurate to paint CapCut as if every operation always sends all your files to the cloud. The specific workflows and features matter.</p><p>If you need to deliver now, compare with established editors like <a href=\"https://shotcut.org/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shotcut</a> or <a href=\"https://kdenlive.org/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kdenlive</a>. They're not CapCut clones: check which one fits your editing style, your formats, and the support you're going to need.</p>\n<h2>My Verdict</h2><p>The rewrite makes OpenCut's technical future more interesting, and at the same time demands sharper expectations for the present. <strong>I wouldn't move a client workflow over until I'd verified a complete, repeatable export.</strong> If it passes that test, there's something worth evaluating. If not, a list of future integrations won't deliver your video.</p>\n<script type=\"application/ld+json\" data-mku-schema=\"review\">{\"@context\":\"https://schema.org\",\"@graph\":[{\"@type\":\"SoftwareApplication\",\"name\":\"OpenCut\",\"applicationCategory\":\"BusinessApplication\",\"operatingSystem\":\"Web, Desktop, and Mobile\",\"url\":\"https://opencut.app/\",\"license\":\"MIT\"}]}</script>",
